KEM QIADAH VI 2010
3:49 PG
Good bye to beloved family, good by to home sweet home, HELLO to MS!
It was the first day of Kem Qiadah VI. Faces of 219 students were adorned with brightness and enthusiasm.
Kem Qiadah is an annual camp involving student campers which takes place at MSPSBS. The camp is organized by Maktab Sains and this year, in cooperation of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah with the aim of generating young and competitive leader. The theme of this year’s Kem Qiadah was ‘Permata Negara’.
This year, Kem Qiadah VI did not only involve MS students but also students of the Cluster 1 schools whuch are SOAS college, STPRI, Menglait Secondary School and Sultan Hassan Bangar Secondary School. In addition, students from Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah as well as Katok Form Six Centre also joined the camp.
Lots of activities were carried out during the camp. Students were divided into 12 groups namely Koya, Kuripit, Gatas, Dalamu, Biraksa, Koci, Pipis, Katilapam, Abu-Abu, Ampung, Ardam and Sesagun. The names are based on Brunei’s Traditional food. Students were to eat (specially prepared by MSPSBS. What? You think the students ate horrible food during the camp? NO! The foods included Buttermilk chicken, Satay and BBQ Chicken!), compete and even sleep with their team mates in the 4-day camp, led by 3 facilitators, who were the teachers, for each group.
On 19th March 2010, the first day of Kem Qiadah, students registered their names and the opening ceremony was carried out. After the ceremony, the ‘Ice Breaking’ activity was held, conducted by the one and only Awang Iswandy, or better called as Abang Wandy, Vice President of Brunei Brunei AIDS Council.
After that, there was demonstration on building a camp, performed by Steven Chiow Ching Seng and Scouts members of UBD. ‘Camp Craft’ also took place. Each group had to build a camp and decorate it as stunning as possible using only some leaves and bamboos. After Maghrib prayer, there was a religious talk by Ustaz Awang Hisham. After that, Group Activity was carried out in the MSPSBS auditorium, again conducted by Abang Wandy. Nearly, 12 a.m., the students slept.
On the second day, students had to wake up as early as 4.00 a.m. to have a shower, which was the biggest problem to the girls especially (there weren’t enough place to have a shower!), and also performed Suboh prayer. At 6 a.m. campers went to Penanjong Garrison, where challenging activities with Brunei Armed Forces took place. Campers had the opportunity to try some new experiences such as Rock Climbing, watch demonstration during wars, get into jungles and shooting with M16! At the night, the students went to BSB where ‘BSB Rendezvous’ was held. Then again, nearly 12.00 a.m. students slept.
On the third day, after the campers performed Suboh prayer, they went to Bukit Shahbandar. The very challenging recreational activity was carried out. Teams were to find and solve some clues to finish the activit, similarly to treasure hunt. Then, students went back to MSPSBS, to hear a motivational talk by Ak. Kamal, who has so much experience in being a youth leader. After the talk, the ‘Cooking for Survival’ activity was carried out, facilitated by members of the C.A.R.E Association. During the night, the ‘Cultural Night’ took place in which each team performed their talents with the theme of ‘Time…’. Then, the ‘Recall’ was held, conducted by Abang Wandy. Students were told about importance of parents and some difficulties in life. It was a VERY emotional moment. Even the boys were crying! Finally, SLEEPING time!
Rise and shine! It was the last day of Kem Qiadah VI! After Suboh prayer, camoers were brought to Muara Beach where painting activity (each team had to paint the memories during the cam on drawing papers) and activity with Brunei Biology Association were held. At the afternoon, the closing ceremony of Kem Qiadah VI took place. Parents of campers were invited to watch their children receiving their certificates. In the ceremony, winners were also announced and prizes were presented.
Kem Qiadah VI had brought so much laughter and memories for the students. It will never be forgotten and will stay in the hearts of ones who experienced the memorable camp.
